We moved to Spartanburg 3 years ago. Will someone explain to me why "Red White & Boom" is never held on the 4th of July. For the life of me I can not figure out why Spartanburg doesn't have fireworks on the 4th.

Red, White and Boom is a Spartanburg Community College Foundation event and the date is chosen by their board and staff, not the City of Spartanburg. Hope that helps!

After contacting the college, here were a few thoughts on why they pick a date that's earlier than the 4th of July.

1. The event is a fundraiser for the Spartanburg Community College Foundation and the majority of event volunteers are SCC faculty/staff and their families. Holding the event before July 4th allows them to both volunteer for the event and then be free to spend their holiday with family and friends.

2. As I understand it, when the event began 14 years ago, event organizers began keeping track of attendance levels, etc and the week before the Fourth generally resulted in a higher attendance levels. So for over the past years we have held Red, White & Boom the week before the 4th based on the historical data that we had.

3.By holding the event the week before the Fourth, Spartanburg families have multiple ways to celebrate Independence Day. They can celebrate at Red, White & Boom early and then celebrate on the Fourth at other venues.
