ArtCycle Artist Announced for 2009

The City of Spartanburg announces ten artists that were selected for the Spartanburg Creative Energy’s first ArtCycle exhibit.

As part of the Spartanburg Creative Energy campaign, Artcycle is a new initiative that will promote ten regional artists, each of whom has been commissioned to build an outdoor sculpture from recycled bicycle parts. Once piece is designed by four high school students from the R. D. Anderson Applied Technology Center.

The sculptures will be on display in Spartanburg’s downtown area from May to August of this year. The project is the result of a collaboration between Spartanburg Creative Energy, Hub-Bub.com, Spartanburg Art Museum and Partners for Active Living. Artcycle celebrates the City's national designation as a Bicycle Friendly Community, which made it the first in South Carolina to receive that honor in 2007.

Unlock Your Creativity!

Unlock Your Creativity with The Artist’s Way
Tuesdays March 24 – May 25, 2009 6:30- 8:00 PM

The Artist’s Way is a 10 week class that will guide you in the rediscovery of your creative self. As adults, we recognize our dreams for a creative outlet, but we find ourselves too busy or we give up on our dream. This class provides weekly sessions that offer a safe place, time, and a process to reconnect with your unlived creativity. You do not have to be an artist to take this class!

Each week we will use art and writing to explore exercises from The Artist’s Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity by Julia Cameron and Mark Bryan. The book is available at Barnes & Noble or Amazon.com at less expensive rates. Class will be limited to 10 people.

The Artist’s Way is an opportunity to:
* Encourage your artist self
* Unblock your creative flow
* Have fun using art materials, such as clay, oil pastels, chalk pastels, colored pencils, markers, collage, and paint.

After The Artist’s Way you may:
* Write, paint, sing, dance, sculpt, act, carve, draw, or whatever else your creativity has dreamed!

* Bring joy and enthusiasm back to your life.

* Have a creative process that relaxes and releases stressful feelings.

Where: St. Christopher Episcopal Church 400 Dupre Drive next to Spartanburg High School
Supplies: Bring The Artist’s Way book and a journal at least 8 ½” x 11”. Before the 1st class, read: Introduction, The Basic Principles, and The Basic Tools.

Facilitator is Betsy S. Adams, MPH, CHES, and Certified Expressive Arts Facilitator. Betsy believes creative expression improves overall health by bringing balance to life and a sense of calm and wellbeing.
