Be the Difference
One of the most important things each young leader must realize is his or her value as an individual. When you realize your own high worth as a person, you can see the high value of each individual in society, regardless of age, race, ethnicity,
socio-economic status, and the endless stream of ways we can categorize ourselves and other people. This view of people is what really colors the way we see the world. How you see and treat yourself and others is also the foundation for the respect, character, and integrity vital in any leader—of any age.
And, because of your own inherent value, you matter, your choices and decisions matter, and have a far-reaching effect on the people around you and closest to you, as well as the people in your broader community. As a young person and young leader, you have the potential for an incredible impact on your community. That impact can be the most positive kind: you can be the difference. You can educate yourself on the issues, problems, and on-going solutions in your community, and determine how you can help and how you can be a part of the solution. And, remember that being the difference does not stop with simply making a difference in your community. You can be the catalyst for positive change. You can be the change.
Imagine what you want to see in your world, and how things could be. You can be the change you want to see. Change often starts with small steps, but it always takes hope, dedication, hard work, and the determination to never, never give up.
