The City of Spartanburg team accepting the award from State Treasurer Converse Chellis.South Carolina State Treasurer Converse Chellis presented the City of Spartanburg the State’s inaugural State Treasurer’s Award for Financial Excellence on Thursday, September 25, 2008 in City Council Chambers. Created to acknowledge and recognized any individual, the City of Spartanburg exemplified outstanding financial management.
Treasurer Chellis, in presenting the award to Mayor Bill Barnet said, "As we have all recently witnessed, we are living in very unnerving and very uncertain financial times. Having people at the wheel who understand how to manage financial resources is more important than ever."
